Hi! I’m Yair, and I’m a first year resident at Downstate. I like to make music, and I love teaching. My latest projects include volunteering with the Village Health Workers of Kisoro, Uganda, and leading the international grass roots education program, START Science (startscience.org).

Hey! I’m Sefa, and I’m a second year student at Einstein medical school. There are few things I enjoy more than getting my hands dirty and bringing a smile to a child’s face. Through TEACH I have discovered a venue whereby I can utilize my passion for science and love of fun to enhance the lives of hundreds of children and families!

Hi! I’m Rachel. I am a sophomore at New York College of Medicine. I joined TEACH after attending our first pilot session and being completely inspired by the strength and charm of the children we work with.
Chana Ratner
Director
Hey! After attending my first TEACH module I was immediately fascinated and have been part of TEACH ever since. In my free time you can find me playing piano, ice skating or reading. Chana was the proud recipient of a grant from The Jewish Foundation for Education of Women which had facilitated a TEACH summer internship experience.
Vivian Alestra
Child Life Specialist
Hi! I am Vivian Alestra, a Child Life Specialist for Staten Island University Hospital –Northwell Health. I began this position in the fall of 2001 and since then I have enjoyed helping hospitalized children. children. Prior to this position I was an elementary school teacher for over 10 years. I also worked as a teacher trainer for both Day Care and Head start programs.I help children acclimate and cope with the challenges of illness, treatments and formal examinations and procedures. As part of the healthcare team. I also provide informative guidance, and support to patients and parents facing new diagnosis as well as planning and setting up special entertainment visitors to the Pediatric Unit.

I attended New York University for my baccalaureate degree and then Brooklyn College for my graduate degree. I am the proud mother of an adult daughter who is a 5th grade teacher. We reside in Staten Island, New York.

I’m Isaac, I am a senior in college hailing from Staten Island. I am a research assistant currently doing research in three laboratories as well as volunteering at Downstate hospital, where I lead the TEACH branch there. Cooking, reading and research are my passions; well, besides TEACH, of course!

Hi! I’m Yael and I am from Queens, New York. I’m studying Biochemistry and Political Science in the Honors Program at Stern College for Women. I love reading, exploring new places, and hanging out with my friends.

Hey! I'm Dovid, hailing from Plainview, Long Island. I'm studying Business Intelligence and Management in the Sy Syms honors program. Some of my hobbies include reading – usually fiction, and running. I particularly enjoy meeting new people and taking on new challenges.

Hi, I'm Amanda! I'm a native of New Jersey, but I made the trip over the bridge to study biology and art history at Stern College for Women, where I am currently a junior. In my free time, I can usually be found in a spinning class, curling up with a good book, or making a mess in the kitchen.

Rebecca Winter is a Biology major at Stern College for Women. Her involvement in science has extended beyond the scope of the classroom as she has been a volunteer with TEACH since 2016. She has seen firsthand the impact that TEACH has made on the lives of children and hopes to further the cause within this leadership role.
